After having a chat with @jimmyb_84 on Twitter recently, a question arose, what is the greatest sounding engine in motorsport. Of course this is quite an emotive subject for all motorsport fans to debate, however, I feel its worthy of a poll.

I have chosen ten engines, all different capacities and configurations, and below you’ll find some YouTube links of those engines in action. Remember, this is to determine which engine sounds best, not which engine or car was most successful. So please do have a listen on the YouTube links below and then vote for your favourite in the poll above.

  1. Chevrolet Corvette C6R GTE
  2. Ferrari 412T1 (F1 Car)
  3. Mazda 787B (Le Mans LMP1)
  4. Mclaren Mercedes MP4/15 (F1 Car)
  5. Lotus Renault 98T (F1 Car)
  6. Mclaren Honda MP4/4 (F1 Car)
  7. BRM H16 (F1 Car)
  8. Lancia Stratos
  9. Porsche 962 (Le Mans Car) (Go to 6min 3osec for start of drive)
  10. Brabham BT55 (F1 Car)

Some great choices. One of my favorites was the Matra V12 Formula One engine that Ligier used in the seventies.

Indeed, thanks for taking the time to read the post, I’m glad you enjoyed it! I had great difficulty getting the list down to 10, and I’m certain there are many others that could have been included!! Thanks again for visiting the blog! :)

Now that was a great way to put a smile on my face on a bleak wet morning, so many great sounds it was difficult to choose just one but for me, it has to be the BRM :-)

Agreed, another awesome car, as I’ve said to other people that have commented, getting the list down to 10 was very difficult! Thanks for reading the post and hopefully voting, I can only apologize the Audi S1 Group B wasn’t there, could have had quite a few of the Group B monsters in there if I’m honest, but needed to keep it down to 10! :)
